One Plus One Equals? When Shooting With Two Models

Shooting with two models is one the most challenging experience for a new fashion photographers. As they are models, and it is in their nature to shine in any image they are a part of. So what really does happen when you use two models in the same shoot? Well, for starters, they want to make sure that they are the ones that outshine the other one. Which can get you in a tricky situation, as you need to pick the final image.

I have learn’t from experience, that it is my duty to make sure that the image I produce is not just perfect. But it perfectly portrays the models, especially when I am working with two or more models. As both want to shine, and make themselves stand out, but the image has to be taken at just the perfect moment to ensure that the outcome will satisfy both the models. So the entire responsibility falls directly on the photographer.

. It took me some time to realize this, and today when I am shooting with two or more models I am more confident and prepared. As this simple and easy trick allows you to show off two amazing sides of the same images, without one overpowering the other one.

At that point, I am responsible to keep the clients’ ideas in mind, the models in check, ensuring the outcome is amazing, and the overall shoot runs smoothly. And just a thousand other things, that might not sound like a huge work, but when you pile it up all together it is a huge task. And it’s really like the domino effect, when one small thing goes wrong the entire world comes clashing down. Do not get me wrong, I have had great experiences working with two and more models at the same time, but there have been times when I wished I was just working with one.

Yes, the image automatically gets better with two models, as some shoots require them. Both models are like living art in photoshop especially when it comes to fashion photography. As they replicate art in all the images, and it is easy to understand what happens when you place two amazing paintings together. There is a reason why museums do not put two amazing art pieces in the same room, or side by side, as they will just outshine each other and lose their value. So it is important to understand the concept.

Regardless, there are times when you are shooting with two models and it is amazing, as you are able to show off more in a single image. And you can run with various concepts, textures, mainly a lot of ideas. This way you won’t be placing them against each other, you will be offering them their space in the same image. It took me some time to realize this, and today when I am shooting with two or more models I am more confident and prepared. As this simple and easy trick allows you to show off two amazing sides of the same images, without one overpowering the other one.
