Trumps Photoshop – Their Careers Models Should Bow Out Gracefully

Reality has a funny way of catching up with us, as there comes a time when it starts to show in outlook. I have been working in the fashion industry as a professional fashion photographer for years now, and I can easily tell you that reality trumps photoshop. There is only so much the tool can do for you, which is why you should bow out gracefully at the end of your career rather than keep on pushing reality.

When you are used to a certain amount of glam and fame it is hard for you to let it go, which is why models are known to stretch their careers for as long as they can. After years under the spotlight, it is hard to imagine a life where you will not be rushing through the day trying to get as much done as possible and looking gorgeous doing so. As all that models live and breathe is their career, and when that career is coming to an end they tend to start stretching it.

I have had the opportunity to work with many models in my career, and I have seen both kinds of modules. Who has taken on age gracefully, and who tend to stretch their age as much as they can. The common statement you get to hear is that it can easily be photoshopped. But what they fail to realize is that that is not reality, and setting an image forward that is based on lies and adjustments is not fair. They are simply thinking about themselves and their career, they fail to see that they have fans and followers who go through so much of their lives trying to gain the same look they carry so flawlessly.

Which is why I strongly feel that models should gracefully bow out when they have reached a certain age. It can be any age they feel is right to leave the industry and move on with their lives. It might be hard to see a life without being a model, but you have all the fame you need, and you can easily get started in any other career. Fame is a powerful gift, and the only those who understand it’s importance are able to ride through it their entire life.

I had an honest conversation with one of may models that told me, that she rather age out gracefully when the time comes, rather than supporting a fake image. As aging is a beautiful process. And to be honest I have never respected anyone as much as I respected that model in that moment. As she understood the issue with fake perceptions of reality and was ready to help break down the walls. If more models started to think like this, we will not have to go through the painful process of hiding age marks from images. So the world can see that there is beauty in all that the world has to offer.
