I have many amateur photographers come up to me and ask what equipment do I use for lighting, and time after time I find myself repeating the same thing.Which is, that it is not the equipment alone that matters, it is the knowledge and control of your equipment that really makes a difference. To help you out I am listing down a few key characteristics that will help you understand the basics you need to know.
Quantity – Depending on what kind of light it is, natural or artificial you need to adjust accordingly. The intensity is what will matter when it comes to the final image, so think of how much light your eyes catch, and how much will be too much.Practicing in practical settings, such as yourself will help you develop your skills faster.
Quality – The quality of light is not something you can really measure, but with time you will be able to tell what kind of light adds character to your images, and what ruins them. So rely on your visual perception, and take a few shots to check for the right setting.
Temperature – Color temperature can help you set the right mood, and it has nothing to do with the temperature outside. As it is about the mood and tone you want to set using various settings.
You might not be able to see it, but light has color that can only be seen under some situations. For instance, when you take an image in a dark shade the image will show blue hues.
Direction – The direction of the light makes a huge difference, as it allows you to set the entire image. As light has the ability to create shades, so you have to consider where the light is coming in from, along with its quantity, quality, and temperature.
