Hiring Models For a Fashion Shoot or a Fashion Show
Hiring models is not an easy task, as you have to filter through at least a hundred to find the perfect one. As there are times when the shoot of the show requires a specific model, that would be able to take the experience to the next step. Think of the model as the perfect piece of the puzzle. So once you place it in, and the other pieces come together. I have used this analogy to explain the process because that is how I view each assignment.
I start with the essential pieces and slowly move onto the final touches. As hiring model is a crucial step, and is the final piece of the puzzle it has to be just perfect.This allows you to really bring forward a powerful campaign, as it is all about the model.
There are two main ways you can hire a model. First is the most commonly used method, that is known as casting calls. Here we post the requirement and models come in for an open casting, where they are assessed and judged based on various things. The process requires you to go through a large number of hiring models before you can find the right one. However, it also offers a wide range of choice. So your options are not limited when it comes down to make the final choice.
On the other hand, you can call in a few hiring model that you have handpicked. This allows you to choose hiring models based on their portfolio, and even models you have worked with before.This way you do not have to worry about wasting a lot of time, as you will only be dealing with models you have called in. However, you will be limited by the number of models you have called in, and you will not be able to select one of the models you have at hand. Moreover, you might know these models, that offers a great advantage as you know if they are right for the job or not and how they are to work with.

I have gone both ways in for various shoots and events, and I can easily tell you that sometimes you will get lucky and find the perfect Hiring models easily, and other times you will feel that you have been looking for an eternity.Either method is not easy, and you never know which method might work for you. Which is why I suggest you go with your gut feeling, as it can offer a great deal. However, if you feel that the method you have chosen is not the right one, then you can easily switch to the other one.
This might seem like an endless process, but when you find the perfect model for the job, the process will become a thing of the past, and you will not think about it ever again. As a professional fashion photographer, this is a constant cycle you need to keep going through with each new assignment.
