Social Media are websites that enable individuals from all around the world to create an account, in hopes of connecting with people from all around the world they have lost touch with. What started with a “how to stay connected” has now turned into the largest online platform for sharing content and communication around the world.  Theses platforms today are the biggest marketing platform in the world, as they offer you the opportunity to market your services and products to users all around the world. However, now these social media platforms have started offering marketing services for money.

Where it is great to have a platform where you can share an image of the video to show off your skills. On the other hand, it is not ideal to exist in a place where you can now buy appreciation. What is known as a marketing technique is a completely a manner to buy fame. I have seen so many accounts that have thousands of follows that share mediocre content, and on the other hand, the accounts that actually share quality work are not looked up just as much.

The main reason is the amount of money the account owner spends on the marketing aspect. The more you spend the more you grow. This is not actually fame, it is a state of mind that is being created for those who love to be in the spotlight. As a professional fashion photographer, I for one rather be appreciated by some who understand my line of work and really mean it. Rather than being fake appreciated by millions, that might not really exist. Think about it, what would you rather have social media accounts that are filled with users you have bought, or a social media account that consists of people who actually appreciate your work.

The more you spend the more you grow.

Do not get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with marketing your work. Especially when you are new to the game. But there comes a time when you need to stop and ask yourself if it’s too much. Simply creating following is not enough in this market, you might be able to impress many at the beginning, but your work will soon start to speak for itself. Because you can purchase fake followers and appreciation, but the real world has a cut throat system, and if you want to survive you need to work on your skills and keep a level of consistency.

You might be able to build a fake empire, but I assure you it will not get you anywhere when it comes to getting actual work. That is why I will tell you what I keep telling myself. That keeping it simple and clean is the perfect way to go. Keep your head up, and your eye on the prize. Yes, these social media accounts and followers are required, as they set the tone. But only to a point where you actually start to gain real followers and appreciators. If you allow yourself to be consumed, you will find yourself trapped in a world where you are not getting anywhere.
